Broadcom's Fiber Optic Access Series and Broadband Introduction to Home Devices

News Industry News 3950

Broadcom's family of fiber-optic access and broadband connectivity for home devices includes Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONs) and Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPONs), providing a highly integrated portfolio of solutions for high-speed Internet, TV and telephony.

The high level of integration in the BCM6838x family provides system vendors with a cost-effective solution to implement EPON and GPON Home Gateway Units (HGUs) and Single Family Units (SFUs) on a single chip at a low system cost.

MediaTek's GPON/EPON chipset MT7525, which is widely adopted in the upgrade of mainland China Telecom's Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), is also exported to Asia and the Middle East, which is a cost-effective gateway terminal for FTTH projects, which is capable of a download data stream of 2.5Gbps and an upstream of about 1.25Gbps.

It is affordable and stable platform!

In conclusion, Broadcom's fourth-generation BCM6838X is being more compatible with BCM serial gateways and SOHO switches, MediaTek MT7525 also has stable and good compatibility with all major gateways, three-level switches, so the best way to go about it is to budget for it, as well as how to make it work in terms of maintaining the network and so on would be a good choice to consider for your residential gateway project.
