Communication World News (CWW) - The GSMA released the 2019 Global Edition of the GSMA's flagship Mobile Economy Report Series at MWC 2019 on February 25, which shows that 16 other major markets around the world will turn on commercial 5G networks this year following the first 5G launches in South Korea and the U.S. At the same time, with the increase in the number of 5G network launches and compatible devices this year, 5G is expected to account for 2025 in 2025 as 5G networks are released and the number of compatible devices increases this year. According to statistics, despite regulatory and competitive pressures, global mobile operators are currently investing around $160 billion (RMB 1.1 trillion) per year in capital expenditure to expand and upgrade their networks.

"The arrival of 5G forms an important part of the world's move towards an era of smart connectivity, and with the development of the Internet of Things, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, it is set to be a key driver of economic growth in the coming years," said Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA. "While 5G will transform business and deliver a range of exciting new services, mobile technology is also helping to close the connectivity gap. Over the next few years, we will connect more than one billion new users to the mobile internet, facilitating the adoption of mobile-based tools and solutions in agriculture, education and healthcare that will improve the lives of people across the globe. "

The report shows:

By 2025, the number of 5G connections will reach 1.4 billion, or 15 percent of the global total. So far, 5G is expected to account for about 30 percent of total connections in markets such as China and Europe, and about half of the U.S. total; and

4G will continue to grow strongly during this period and will account for nearly 60% of global connections by 2025 (up from 43% last year); and

By 2025, the number of global IoT connections will triple to 25 billion, while global IoT revenues will quadruple to $1.1 trillion (about Rs. 7.3 trillion) ;Â

1 billion new mobile subscribers have been added in the four years since 2013, bringing the total number of mobile subscribers to 5.1 billion by the end of 2018, or about two-thirds of the global population; and

More than 700 million new subscribers are expected to be added over the next seven years, with about a quarter of them coming from India ;)

Over the next seven years, 140 million new mobile Internet users will be added, bringing the total number of mobile Internet users globally to 500 million by 2025 (more than 60 percent of the world's total population).

5G will add $2.2 trillion, or about 14.7 trillion yuan, to the global economy over the next 15 years.

According to the report, global mobile technologies and services generated 4.6 percent of global GDP in 2018, a contribution that amounted to $3.9 trillion (approximately Rs. 26 trillion) in economic value added. This contribution is projected to increase to $4.8 trillion (approximately Rs. 32 trillion) or 4.8% of GDP by 2023, with countries around the globe increasingly benefiting from the productivity and efficiency gains brought about by the increase in mobile services. The mobile ecosystem also supported nearly 32 million jobs in 2018 (directly and indirectly) and made a significant contribution to public sector funding, mobilizing more than $500 billion (about Rs. 3.3 trillion) through general taxation.

Looking ahead, 5G is expected to contribute $2.2 trillion (about Rs. 14.7 trillion) to the global economy over the next 15 years, with key sectors such as manufacturing, utilities, professional and financial services set to benefit the most from the new technology.
